"Do Epic Shit" Sign
I'm getting ready for an awesome, productive 2017! I wanted something in my office that reminds me to stay on track during the year! I've always loved the saying "Do Epic Shit" so I thought that would be perfect motivation this year.
STEP 1: Sand the wooden board with fine grit sand paper to create a smooth surface for the paint to adhere. Wipe clean.
STEP 2: Base coat the board desired color. I used wild blueberry from the Martha Stewart Crafts line. Let dry.
STEP 3: Punch out designs of paper stencils and layout your design on the surface. TIP: I must confess that I had a total craft fail on this one! Most of these boards come with predrilled holes on the back for hanging. Make sure your design is right side up so you're able to hang it appropriately! I did my design upside down and had to redo it but that's the beauty of paint! You can apply more navy and redo! So check the back before you stencil to avoid doing what I did :-)
STEP 4: Once you have your designs laid out, decide where you want to free hand certain elements of your design. Again, I had another craft fail on this one! I had my flourishes backwards but I was able to adjust so that my sign read left to right. I had a flourish in the top left hand corner and bottom right hand corner when I really needed them vice versa for the sign to read correctly.
STEP 5: Secure your paper stencils in place with stencil tape and apply paint to design. I always use a dry brush technique when stenciling so make sure my design comes out crisp. Don't get crazy with blobs of paint :-) Immediately remove the stencils and let dry.
STEP 6: Next, go back and fill in the hand drawn elements with a gold paint pen. If you mess up and are not happy, just paint over it and try again until you get what you want.
STEP 7: Hang your custom artwork and enjoy!
